‘Subject Projects’ materials have been created for the teaching and learning of the target language (English). The idea is to teach the content at the same conceptual level as in the mother tongue.
The materials comprise 6 teaching units, to be studied over a period of two academic years. During each year the students study three units, which represent school subjects from the standard curriculum, with a retrivial task in each one which revises and consolidates the conceptual and linguistic content of the ones previously studied.
For the age range 12-13, the units are based on the study of Music, Technology and Environmental Science, and for the 13-14 age-range the themes explored relate to Geography, Literature, History and Science. The Units are organised within a content-based framework. There is always an Introduction to the Unit which presents the subject and tests the pupils’ pre-knowledge of the contents presented. The unit is then divided into sequences of work with retrieval tasks at the appropriate moments; after one or two sequences, and / or at the end.
